Jeep The USA

Best Jeep trails in the Western U.S.

What's New at Jeep The USA

An occasional blurb when we have done something new on the website.
August, 2019 - We spent the winter, spring and summer in the City of Apache Junction where we ran trails in 3 different Regions - Apache Junction, Phoenix to Flagstaff and Tucson - Benson.

We updated dozens of trails with the latest descriptions, up-to-date-tracks and new photos when applicable.  Also added new trails in each Region.
Apache Junction has four new trails.

Two Bar Ridge 2.5 is at the north end of Apache Trail.  Nice views of Apache and Roosevelt Lakes as well as a huge crested saguaro.

Tortilla Ranch 2.5 is a short scenic trip to the site of historic Tortilla Ranch, upstream of Tortilla Flat on Tortilla Creek.

Putz Around Superior 2.5 is a trail in Superior featuring wagon and mule tracks etched in stone, Apache tears, Mattie Earp's grave and nice overlooks and rock formations.

Pioneer Pass 2.0 starts near the center of Globe, circles the south side of Pinal Peak and ends on Forest Service Road 651 leading to Pinal Peak.

Flight Path and Widow Maker 4.0 is not completely new.  We rearranged Flight Path to include "Widow Maker".

Tucson - Benson has 2 new trails.

Silverbell Sasco Loop 2.0
has the Titan Missile Interpretive Center, Silver Bell Mine, Silverbell Cemetery, mutant saguaros  (photo) and Sasco ghost town.

Rug Road to Klondyke 3.5 begins in Mammoth, traverses the famous "Carpet Hill" then climbs to Table Mountain Pass in the Zapata Mountains.  It then drops down into the Aravaipa watershed, passes through Klondyke and then either east to Fort Thomas on US 70 (this track) or south to Willcox on I-10.  Carpet Hill, wild horses, a cliff dwelling and great scenery.

Phoenix to Flagstaff gained an easy run.

Agua Caliente Road GP
loops the Gila Bend Mountains while visiting the Gillespie Dam and Bridge plus Sundad Ghost Town.

September, 2018 - A major upgrade to Black Hills Region in South Dakota.

Added 36 trails, including 10 difficult ones used in the Dakota Territorial Challenge.

This Region has many, many roads and trails throughout the Black Hills National Forest.  We show trails as a single route, but in reality there are numerous ways to get to the same place.

June, 2018 - Added 7 new trails to Saint George Region.

Saint George today is a vibrant and fast growing city in an enjoyable part of Utah.  Of course, it is also great for Jeeping.

May, 2018 - Added Nevada as a new state with 2 Regions:

Las Vegas has good trails in all directions around the City.

Mesquite is more compact and has many very remote trails.  Just the way we like it!

April, 2018 - Updated 15 trails and added 2 new ones in Moab, Utah.

If you are going to Moab in the spring or fall busy season be sure to make reservations early.  The area is adding hotels like crazy and the trails are getting busier.

Alternative Utah areas are Blanding, Page-Escalante-Kanab and Green River-Hanksville.  These are generally easier trails, but most are very nice.

Chicken Corner 2.0 is a very interesting trail with aptly named "Chicken Corner" at the end.

March, 2018 - Elephant Butte had a few new trails added and a closed one deleted.

Added links to describe the Chili Challenge, an annual event with many very difficult trails.

There is a thriving population of goldfish in a pond formed by overflow from an abandoned mine.  Something you do not see every day.

March, 2018 - Big Bend is a new Region for us and the only trails we have in Texas.

This Region encompasses all trails that Big Bend National Park calls "Backcountry Roads".

Most of the Backcountry Roads are quite easy, as compared to typical Jeep trails throughout the West.  There is only one trail in this area rated higher than 2.0 (Black Gap).

This is a very remote National Park and some of the trails will not have traffic for days at a time.  Be prepared when you venture out exploring.

January, 2018 - We were on a new-to-us trail in the Apache Junction Region when we found a saguaro with four crests.  We never have seen one with that many.  Check it out on Quartz Ridge 2.0 if you are in the area.

December, 2017 - We spent the month in Lake Havasu and Parker, Arizona adding trails to the Region.  There now are 23.

There are many difficult trails in the Region, but we did not do these on this trip.  We concentrated on 3.5 and less.

Take a look.  You may find something new.

November, 2017 - Kingman is a new region in Arizona.

Added 12 trails ranging from 2.0 to 4.5.  Kingman has a history of mining and that was the origin of most of the trails.

Wild burros are widespread throughout the region, as are deer in the higher elevations.  Bobcats are seldom seen, but you might get lucky like we did.

November, 2017 - Death Valley is a brand new Region and is our first foray into California.

Added 11 new trails, most of which are within Death Valley National Park.  We concentrated on the longest and most remote trails in the Park.  There is very little traffic on these roads so be careful and have a plan to get help if you have a problem.  Cell service is extremely spotty.

Lots of mining history and rocks - lots and lots of rocks!  We enjoyed the area and will return to do the closer trails in the Park as well as others west of the Park.  Someday.

October, 2017 - We set up camp in Blanding and added 9 new trails to the Region.  We also moved Elephant Hill 3.0 from Moab to Blanding because it ties into roads to the south.

August, 2017 - We spent July and August running trails in both the Montrose and Silverton Regions.  Numerous Silverton trails were updated, and Montrose gained a bunch of new trails.

Montrose has seven Dry Creek Rock Crawling trails (DCRC).  These have now been emphasized by giving each one an individual webpage.
  • Boulder Canyon DCRC 10+
  • Cactus DCRC 8
  • Calamity DCRC 8
  • Death Row DCRC 10+
  • Die Trying DCRC 8
  • Scratch and Dent DCRC 6

June, 2017 - WOW!  A brand new Region in south-central Utah.  Page - Escalante - Kanab has two dozen mostly easy, uncrowded trails over an area the size of Massachusetts.

The Region includes Capitol Reef National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Vermillion Cliffs National Monument plus BLM and Forest Service lands.

A fantastic area!  Look it over.

June, 2017 - Green river and Hanksville had overlapping areas so we combined the two into one named, amazingly,  Green River - Hanksville.  We also added 9 trails to the Region.
  • Capitol Reef South Draw 2.0
  • Cathedral Valley 2.0
  • Copper Globe Horses 2.5
  • Cottonwood Wedge Buckhorn 2.0

May, 2017 - We parked our motorhome at Hite on the north end of Lake Powell and added 6 new trails to the website.  Did not want to start a new region so trails east of the Colorado River are in the Blanding Region and the one west of the river is in the Green River - Hanksville Region.
  • Blue Notch GP
  • Jacob's Chair 2.5
  • Piute Pass North 3.0
  • Piute Pass South 3.0
  • Spook - Dee Bullseye Coleman GP
  • Dollhouse 3.0

  • Crapshoot - Powerline Loop 3.0
  • Indian Fort 2.0
  • Multi Crested Saguaro 3.0

February, 2017 - We parked our motorhome in Lake Havasu and ran a bunch of trails - two of them with the Havasu 4 Wheelers.  Great group of people.

Added 7 new trails to the Lake Havasu, Arizona Region.

We have just scratched the surface of the trails available in this Region.  We shall return.

December, 2016 - Lake Havasu, Arizona added as a Region.  Cannot really take very much credit for the addition.  It is basically a link to the Havasu 4 Wheelers website where they have over 100 tracks posted.  A great guide if you want to wheel the area.

November, 2016 - Apache Junction, Arizona.  Added 4 new trails.  One more trail to the Angel Wing ETC 2.5 group, Hoss 2.0, Mud Springs 4.0 and Saguaro Lake The Rolls 3.0.  We especially like Saguaro Lake The Rolls 3.0.
Picture

August, 2016 - Silverton, Colorado.  Added 2 new trails.  Four Gulches 2.0 and Three Basins 2.0.  Some would say they should be seven individual trails, but we thought it better to consolidate them.
Picture
Four Gulches
July, 2016 - Montrose, Colorado.  Added 4 new trails.  25 Mesa Road GP, Fat Man's Misery Hike, Gunnison Tunnel GP and South Divide - Transfer Roads GP.  These are not difficult Jeep trails, but add more chances to get into the backcountry when you are in the area.
Picture
"Escalante Canyon 2.0" Trail
June, 2016 -Grand Junction, Colorado added as a Region.  Grand Junction is a nice town and has a range of Jeep and ATV trails from 5,000' elevation near the Colorado River to 10,000' on Grand Mesa.
